When we eat, we’re seeking the pleasure of food and avoiding the pain of hunger. Food is life. That’s a fact.
Back in summer 2015, Vicy launched a citizen mobilization in Berlin with the MakeSense crew on the theme “Food & the City”. The aim of this campaign was to explore and discover new ways of producing and consuming food in cities.
“ I started a cause mobilization on Food & the City and I saw the enormous potential there is if we mobilize for the issue. Now I believe that as the Gang grows bigger and more global, our ambitions can grow bigger, too” Vicy explains.
We want to help social entrepreneurs working on solutions for a qualitative and sustainable food system for everyone, everywhere.
Vicy and the Gang have identified three “challenges-block” that we want to address:
1) Production and Productivity — “assure that people have enough and healthy food to eat”
2) Transformation and Distribution — “assure that food is used efficiently and sustainably”
3) Sustainable Consumption — “assure that food is consumed sustainably and food security is ensured”
The good news is that YOU can also be part of the change :)
There are many ways for you to get involved in this mobilization and to support social entrepreneurs who are working on business models to enhance Food Security .
> By organizing a Hold-Up — problem solving workshop — you will help a social entrepreneur to find solutions to his/her most pressing challenge.
> On the other hand, if you haven’t identified any social entrepreneurs working on Food Security, why not organize a SenseFiction? SenseFiction is a 3 hour format that helps generate ideas and create business models to tackle specific issues.
> You can also organise an event to bring social entrepreneurs, music and the general public together. This is what we call a MKS Room.
Attending a MKS Room actually feels like sitting in your living room with your best friends, you are discussing an interesting topic while some artists are playing good music!
Here is a video of the MakeSense team in Warsaw presenting what a MKS Room is. They just organized one and could definitely give you tips on how to master the organisation of this event!
If you are interested in this topic and would like to launch a mobilization in your city as per in Peru, in Austin or in Dakar, then you can form a team of 3 or 4 people and then get in touch with Solène to discuss it and get some support!
Solene is helping the MakeSense community to grow in Europe. She is working with the different Hotspots to get citizens involved in solving social startups’ challenges.
